Steiner Academy of Martial Arts
From Sensei Steiner
For many years I was urged to run an independent school by friends, students and colleagues. After much reflection, I chose a path of independence from those who have instructed me towards a new level of success both as a martial artist and as a person.
My role as Sensei is something that I take very seriously and hold dear. It is my calling and I am grateful to all those who have contributed to my growth, both instructors and students. Teaching is the sustenance of my happiness.
My vision is to provide an academy of learning; a place to provide growth for students and instructors in a martial arts sense and in a personal sense. Steiner Academy of Martial Arts is a place to become a better martial artist and better citizen of the world. Martial arts is a vehicle by which we grow; it is not to be taken lightly. It must be pursued with vigor and commitment.
May our journey together be exciting, fruitful and fun. I am thankful to my students: future, current and past. Without them I would not be able to pursue my dreams. I strive to return to my students all that they have given me.
In closing, be true, be diligent and be a shining example of martial arts study. You are able to become better than you can currently imagine if you are willing to do the work.
Sensei Shawn Steiner has over 20 years of martial arts experience. He first became interested in Kempo karate after seeing The Perfect Weapon starring Kenpo expert Jeff Speakman. After being told about a local Kempo school by a couple of Air Force buddies, he decided to see what the school and art had to offer.
He has been teaching martial arts in Omaha, NE since 1997, and is a well-respected member of the community. His dedication to the success of his students is unparalleled, and his passion for teaching is evident in every class. It is his mission to ensure that everyone who attends Steiner Academy of Martial Arts is given the opportunity to grow as martial artists and as individuals.
Sensei Steiner is directly involved in the daily operations and classes at the Academy.
Wes Ferrel’s martial arts path started when he was still in grade school. In 2004 he started studying Shaolin Kempo and in 2006 he found his home at Steiner Academy.
He enjoys the ongoing opportunity to study multiple styles of martial arts at with Sensei Shawn Steiner.
As an instructor he understands the different ways students learn and he adapts his teaching style to help each individual with their development in martial arts. Wes’s favorite part of teaching is having the honor of helping people improve themselves.
